Tucked away inside a cosy country B&B, the North East's newest fine dining restaurant, Hjem, brings a taste of Scandi chic to rural northumberland. Opened in June 2019, Hjem - both a Northumbrian and Scandinavian word for "home"- is hygge in a nutshell. Serving only locally sourced and foraged dishes, owners Swedish chef Alex Nietosvuori and North East native, Ally Thompson wanted to create a restaurant interior that reflected the paired back, minimal style of their food.

Whilst the adjoining hotel and pub are much more traditional in their aesthetic, passing the roaring open fire and drawing back the curtain into this bright and airy restaurant feels like stepping into Narnia. The 24 seat restaurant boasts a beautiful open kitchen, allowing guests to watch their food being prepared right in front of them and the minimal yet cosy decor allows the stunning dishes, bespoke handmade tableware and views over the rolling countryside to take centre stage.
