The top floor of this beautiful Georgian property was previously underutilised and severely lacking in storage. The brief was to transform the space into a highly functional, multi-use family sanctuary encompassing a playroom, home office, cosy evening snug, and guest bedroom as well as adjoining guest bathroom.

Fitting four distinct zones into a single room required meticulous spatial planning. To completely conceal daytime clutter, we designed a bespoke full-height wall of tongue-and-groove panelling that frames the log burner and houses extra-deep, walk-in alcove cupboards. A sofa bed folds away effortlessly to maximise the central play zone, a dedicated office corner sits positioned with views overlooking the park, and bespoke window seats deliver tranquil reading nooks with integrated storage beneath.

Aesthetically, the challenge lay in creating a scheme that felt suitably youthful for a toddler's playroom, yet sophisticated enough for adult guests, all while honouring the period architecture. We opted for a transitional scheme that balances contemporary freshness with classic charm. Playful patterns inject whimsy, while antique furniture, traditional lighting, and wall panelling anchor the room in timeless British design. To ensure longevity, the palette relies on high-performance, child and pet-friendly textiles, including stain-resistant velvets and durable woven fibres.

This narrative seamlessly extends into the adjacent guest bathroom, which underwent a spatial reconfiguration to unlock its true potential. By reversing the door swing and repositioning some plumbing, the restrictive floor plan was  transformed to comfortably accommodate both a generous walk-in shower and a luxury freestanding bath. A custom floating oak vanity backed by striking geometric tiles creates a beautiful focal point, while soft aqua Zellige tiles and unlacquered brass fixtures echo the family room’s harmonious blend of modern functionality and timeless heritage.
