RESIDENTIAL CLIENT: BOHEMIAN BEDROOM
JESMOND, NEWCASTLE

This grey, unfurnished rental bedroom was a complete blank canvas to work with. The client was keen to create a calm and relaxing master bedroom that made the most of the abundance of natural light. Without the ability to add colour to the walls, we focused instead on creating warmth and cohesion through the furniture and accessories. This minimalist yet cosy bohemian scheme uses a paired-back, airy palette combined with layered, tonal textiles and accessories to create quiet, calm areas of visual interest that break up the expanse of negative space.

The abundance of natural, sustainable and quality fabrics and accessories - from the 100% linen bedding and woven cotton throws, to the hand-woven South African baskets and dried floral arrangements - creates an inviting softness and femininity to the scheme. To bring out to warmer tones in the grey walls, we added solid oak furniture and pops of rusty terracotta in the cushions and art work. To break up the negative lighter spaces, we introduced some drama through black accessories that creates a harmonious balance of masculine and feminine touches
